‘Past & Present ‘ Knebworth House worked with North Hertfordshire College, Centre for the Arts to create a Sculpture Exhibition in the Gardens at Knebworth House.
Visitors to the gardens in July enjoyed the fresh and innovative perspective of students from North Herts College as they interpreted aspects of Knebworth’s history. This is the first time that the Gardens at Knebworth House had been used to showcase student work and there were some exciting ideas on display in the gardens.
Taking the theme of ‘Past and Present’ as the basis for their work, students have used a wide range of materials including textiles, metal and mixed media. The students developed some interesting and varied responses to the design brief. Involved in this collaborative exhibition were students from art and design, extended diploma of art, visual merchandising and fashion. Also exhibiting was artist Hideki Arichi from Hatfield, and two past NHC students Jack Mitchell and Sarah Knibbs.
Knebworth House has a tradition of outdoor sculpture and each generation has added new work to enhance the space. Knebworth Carvings, who are based on the Estate, create and develop new pieces from fallen trees which are then creatively placed around the gardens for visitors to enjoy.
