A Tawny Owl has set up home in the T Rex in the Gardens here at Knebworth House.
This might seem a strange choice of roosting site, but is in fact quite logical as Trust Conservation Manager, Tim Hill, explains: “Tawny owls’ preferred habitat is woodland, but they are opportunistic and may also be found in parks and gardens – anywhere where there is adequate food and shelter.”
“It looks as if the T.Rex tawny owl at Knebworth House is taking advantage of a great roost in a convenient location: High up and safe, with lots of opportunities to find food when visitors have left the park at night. We can all help tawny owls by leaving wild areas in our gardens – tall vegetation provides great habitat for the creatures on which the owls will prey.”
