(Dino Adventure, hands on experience with a tortoise)
On the 29th May, Knebworth House is hosting Dino Adventure. Aspiring palaeontologists and brave explorers can face the trail of 72 life-sized dinosaurs located in the Wilderness Garden. Exploring the woodland paths, children can learn about the T-Rex, the Woolly Mammoth and other fascinating pre-historic creatures. There are information boards throughout the Dinosaur Trail and a huge chalk board for creating ‘cave-man drawings’. Look out for the wind-up sound box to hear the dinosaur roars.
The Trail Sheet is sold in our lovely Gift Shop and can be bought on the day for £1 (in addition to park and gardens admission). Adventurers who complete the Knebworth dinosaur trail quiz and find all the dino eggs can claim an exciting reward.
During the day, the Ventura Wildlife Rangers will offer hands-on experiences with reptilian relatives of the dinosaurs, including: snakes, lizards and tortoises. Using specialist tools, they will demonstrate the techniques required to make the greatest finds and will help children hunt for fossils hidden at the Dino-Dig Palaeontological Site.
It’s a great value day out, as included with the price of entry are: the Adventure Playground, Fort Knebworth, the maze, the 250 acre Park, and 28 acres of Formal Gardens. Tickets booked online before the day of the event qualify for a 10% discount off the full-price of £9.50 for ages 3 and above, or £34.00 for a family ticket/group of 4. Tickets at full price will be available at the gate on the day. Park and gardens entry is free for Season Ticket holders and children under 3. House tickets can be purchased at a supplement of £3.50 for adults, £3.00 for senior citizens / children.
The new Knebworth Dinosaur will be making appearance during the day subject to weather, it loves meeting new people and will be happy to be in photos; so don’t forget to bring a camera!
The new Knebworth Dinosaur has forgotten its name! You can help by emailing in name suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org. A parent or guardian must email in on behalf of children under 13. The child that reminds the Knebworth Dinosaur of its name will be rewarded with a family ticket to the very popular Garden Theatre at Knebworth House this summer. Entries close on the 4th June. The winner will be contacted directly via email and announced on our social media pages.
The Garden Theatre will see the return of the multi-award winning theatre group, Illyria. In line with the dinosaur theme, on the 13th July they are performing “The Lost World”, a play based on the story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which inspired the likes of King Kong, Godzilla, Alien and a host of other classic monster movies.
Join Professor Challenger and his team as they travel to an uncharted plateau in South America where they become involved in tribal warfare between ape-men and indigenous humans, and encounter terrifying dinosaurs previously believed to be extinct. This classic plot has been told since the Ancient Greeks, but the adventurers in this story were the first were the first to bring the monsters back!
A range of dinosaur toys and books can be bought from our Gift Shop including a miniature version of the Knebworth Dinosaur. And why not visit our Tea Room, which serves everything you need to satisfy even the most monstrous of appetites
