Now in its 23rd year the Motor Show is rapidly growing. The organiser, Gemini Events, is very keen to encourage and accommodate clubs at all their shows and over thirty local and national car clubs had displays on the Knebworth showground. The Classic Z Register took the prize for best club stand. The local Letchworth Classic & Vintage Car Club arrived on the Monday with a fascinating arena cavalcade of motoring history spanning more than 80 years.
Club chairman Stuart Saunders was enthusiastic about the show. ‘We had the best turnout of club vehicles in years. The new layout is excellent and the growing number of trade stands is a big attraction. We are already looking forward to the 2014 motor show at Knebworth.’
Stephen Smith, Events Director at Gemini Events commented ‘The weather on Sunday tried to spoil our weekend but we still had some fabulous vehicles on display and plenty for the visitors to see as the sunshine developed. It was followed by a glorious Bank Holiday Monday with the most extensive display of vehicles I have seen since 2011’.
As the sun beat down the concours competition had a record number of entries and with a great range of autojumble and trade stalls the classic motor enthusiast was well catered for. Car of the Show was won by Brain Boyden from Peterborough with an immaculate Jaguar XJ6 whist Peter Baker scooped the Masterclass award for the second year running with his 1969 E type roadster.
Steve Redway, motoring historian and classic car enthusiast, entertained the crowd in the arena with a mix of serious motoring facts and knowledge – and a lot of fun thrown in for the younger audience. All members of the family enjoyed this great day out, with face painting, colouring competitions and amusements and of course the Knebworth Adventure Playground.
The 2014 Knebworth Classic Motor Show will be held on 24th and 25th of August but Stephen Smith is already looking ahead to the 25th anniversary in 2015. ‘We want to feature an A-Z of car clubs in 2015 and we will be offering free club entries. It will be a spectacular and unique gathering to celebrate the silver anniversary of what is now re-established as a really great motor show.’
