Garden Theatre – The Lost World
Last year Illyria theatre group performed the popular Roald Dahl theatre and we welcome their return for 2017. This year, on the 13th July, they are performing a fantastic rendition of “The Lost World”.
Since before the times of Ancient Greece, storytellers have told tall tales about adventurers’ travels to strange lands and the monsters they meet there. But in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Lost World” version of the classic plot, the adventurers were the first to bring the monsters back! This inspired the likes of King Kong, Godzilla, Alien and a host of other classic monster movies!
Four intrepid explorers, led by the redoubtable Professor Challenger, travel to an uncharted plateau in South America following a few scant directions scribbled in a sketch book. They find flora and fauna beyond their wildest dreams, become involved in tribal warfare between ape-men and indigenous humans, and encounter terrifying dinosaurs previously believed to be extinct. But when their camera is destroyed in an accident what evidence can they produce to prove that these creatures actually exist? Unless, of course, they bring live specimens back to London in “unbreakable” crates to reveal to an astounded public. What could possibly go wrong?
This play has brain, character and soul, bringing approximately 2 hours of joy to the boy who’s half a man, or the man who’s half a boy.
Bring along a low back chair, blankets, and a picnic; kick your feet up and let Illyria entertain you.
Although it’s in summer, it’s also in Britain, so be prepared for all weather conditions; the showstopper is being saved for the end!
Recommended for older children and their families.
Gates open at 6pm, performance begins at 7pm.
Running time: 1 hour 50 minutes including 20 minute interval
Ticket prices: £15 adult, £11.50 child, £45 family (2 adults + 2 children).
The photo was taken from Illyria’s 2015 sell-out performance of “Taming Of The Shrew” in Knebworth Gardens.
